City of Amsterdam

On our way back from Kenya we were flying through Amsterdam, of the Netherlands. So we decided to stay a couple of days and explore the city. It was a wonderful place to stop and catch our breath before heading home while also learning more about the city.

The first thing that stood out to Mr. C and I was the energy of Amsterdam, especially through all of the forms of transportation. Yes, of course, vehicles, taxis, buses, plus the trolley and bicycles. And I mean a lot of bicycles, in all shapes and sizes everywhere, and in only one speed; fast! Now it wasn’t easy crossing any of the streets with all these forms of transportation, but it was worth it for exploring. There’s a reason the people of Amsterdam are all healthy and fit, they never stop moving. It was quite impressive to think about how much better the bicycles are for the environment, too.

I have to say that the architecture and canal itself were the elements that definitely captured Amsterdam’s true identity. A cocktail cruise along the canal was simply the best way to learn all about the historical structures. Cheers to a city that has taken great care of their history while investing in preservation of their architecture and waters.

This canal cruise crew was fabulous in cocktail specialties, and historical knowledge with a few crazy tall tales to share. All while providing up perfect views.

Pretty tulips of course must be seen and selected to take home! But be sure your beautiful bulbs have the stamp of approval for Customs while traveling.

Mr. C and I could have spent the entire day in the famous Rijksmuseum, it has an incredible collection to absorb all for your pleasure! Even waiting in line was not bad as it moved pretty quickly. Energizing, impressive and all inspiring! Art Museums are always on our travel schedule to learn and enjoy.

I think it’s easy to see why we hope to return, as 2 to 3 days was not enough time. Here are a few of our favorite photos of views seen while walking and exploring the city of Amsterdam.

I can’t tell you how many photos I took just of gorgeous doors. And we loved the cobble side streets and brick roads.

Inside or out, we couldn’t get enough of Amsterdam. Besides, we’ve got more antiques and flea markets to shop. We were on the wait list for the Anne Frank museum, which is quite important to see. And we need to do a little more homework on restaurants to try. But if you like bicycles, architecture, history, cruising canals, and art museums, we sure hope you’ll book your cocktail cruise for a lovely adventure. Amsterdam has a lot to share!

As the year winds down and we celebrate the blessings of faith, family, and friends, we wish you good health, happiness, and the wanderlust of safe travels.

Happy Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours,

Linda XO
